Curriki: A Free Community to Find and Share Educational Materials
If TTB gave out yearly awards, I’m fairly certain that the one for Best Online Community for Sharing Educational Materials would be given to Curriki.org. It is a truly outstanding place/idea. Curriki currently offers an online community where you can join others as you find(and share your own) curriculum resources for free. Hit up the read more link to find out some of the great things you can do at Curriki.
Quality
Anyone can join and share in this online community, which could make finding the quality materials a task. But thanks to the wonders of Web 2.0 technology, you have a couple of things that will help. At the top of those things lies a team of reviewers that explore the content and rate it based on the quality of it’s contents. So when users are browsing the submitted collections they can easily find the ones that are guartanteed to be the highest quality first. The other side of quality comes from the community. Users are able to comment and recommend the items that find that may or may not have been reviewed yet.
Content
Thanks to a large community, the site already has over 15000(and growing) resources available. These resources range from lessons and tests all the way up to whole courses that are readily available for use.
Searching
Their advanced search allows users to find exactly what they need by giving you options for:
- Subject
- Level
- Instructional Type(test, lesson, course, etc…)
- File Type
- Language
- Only reviewed collections(optional)
Collecting and Community
Curriki has a built in bookmarking system which allows you to save the content that you find, as well as lable it for individual collections. But I think the true power in this comes out when you have a group, such as a department or with other teachers in similar content fields. Forming a group for your department allows you to share materials that you post or find with each of the members in your group. Which means that you can multiply the quality and quantity of shared resources.
