Youtube for Educators at TeacherTube

There are few people these days that don’t know about YouTube. People from almost every background are using it to express their own ideas, remix other material into their own, or even follow the election. It currently hosts so many videos that it would be hard to search for any given keyword and not come up with relevant results.
YouTube has a dark side, though. A side that hosts many videos that are highly unsuitable for school audiences. You would be hard stretched to find any school that did not block it in some form which makes it hard on teachers that find good content. Of course they could download the video(we’ll save that for another post). But wouldn’t it be nice to have a safe zone where teachers and students could host quality videos? That is where TeacherTube comes in.
TeacherTube is a YouTube clone that hosts thousands of videos(and growing). Some come from teachers, some from students. Likely, most of what you find could contribute to the classroom in some way. And since it has a strong community of teachers that flag inappropriate content, very few schools will want to deny access to it.
Teachertube, like Youtube, isn’t just a place to watch. It’s also a place to show off what you or your students have created. It would be a great place to show off that student created work, and give your students some satisfaction in knowing that something they created is viewable to a global audience.
